A day in Skane province, southern Sweden

After taking the car ferry from Helsingor, Denmark to Helsingborg, Sweden we retired to an evening in town and a very pleasant hotel stay at the Clarion Grand. The next day we were up early and on the road for another jam packed day of sightseeing.

The first stop was Ale's Stenar just outside of Ystad, Sweden. You park at the base of a hill / trail and walk up a flight of stairs and a long winding path along a cow pasture. My dad commented that he had to put it in 'mountain goat mode' to make it up the hill, but it really wasn't that bad! Ale's Stenar is basically Scandinavia's version of Stonehenge. There are a series of rocks that form the shape of a boat. The view from the hilltop is amazing.

Glimmingehus is about a 20 minute drive from Ystad. It is considered to be the best preserved medieval castle in Scandinavia. The residence was started in 1499 by a Danish knight, Jens Holgersen Ulfstand and was even used as a fortress. There is a cute little cafe on the property that has wonderful desserts (the lemon tart is to die for) and the lunch creations are a work of art!

Our final stop in Sweden was Malmo for a little culture, food, and shopping. Even though it was Good Friday, surprisingly there were many stores and restaurants open. The Twisting Torso (below) is the tallest building in Sweden and is filled with residences.

Slideshow will be posted soon.
